Both of these pictures were taken over two years before I actually got around to printing them. This was a deliberate delay, useful because of the changing relationship you have with photos over time. After a certain amount of time you lose the enthusiasm to print because of any lingering associations you have at the point of capture, and are able to judge the photo on its own merits. I learned the value of this after a four month trip to Taiwan and China. Although I had seen the Taiwan negatives before I returned home, I hadn’t had the chance to print, or even scan, until I was back in Blighty.
