These are a selection of images I took for a local artist friend, Shulin Wang. Shulin paints with traditional Chinese ink painting techniques on porcelain, and is now experimenting with leaving a matt finish to accentuate the texture of the fired brushwork. She also makes teapots themed on the Maitreya Buddha, emphasizing the rotund physique of the “laughing Buddha.”

Hi Paul 😊 this is Johann’s sister Ingrid. We met when I visited Taipei a few years ago. Johann sent me a link to your work… I looked at the 33 photographs and tried to make comments about them.
Johann also told me there was a spot on the site where Shulin was included in a section under potters. When I was unable to find that in the first link he sent me your website address and voilà … success!! I will have to spend a lot more time on this site since you have so much work posted over a number of years
I love the composition in your work, the way you use light/colou,r and the way you capture a moment in someone’s life. I love this photo of Shulin and the way her work is arranged around her. Johann did share this post of your work with Shulin when it was done in 2017 but I only commented on it to him… I hope this time I’m actually responding to you!
You captured the essence of each potter in this series. I plan to visit your site more often and am excited about uncovering what’s hidden behind the door of each year in your archives. Ingrid
