Jack asked us to do a promotional video. In the morning we interviewed him and watched him throw a large pot on the wheel, and stopped for lunch while we waited for the clay to dry. When it became apparent that the pot would need at least a day, due to the damp in the air, to dry sufficiently, Jack decided to make one of his trademark frog pieces, from scratch. He said it would take him a couple of hours. It took closer to seven. For a photographer, it was a rare opportunity to really scrutinize, with unlimited access of gaze, the entire process of creating a piece for the firing.
